This reminds me of Joan Miró's later work; the composition is seemingly very simple, yet in the little that we see, there is very much going on. With the lack of context for this photograph, the viewer is forced to question which way is up, down, left and right: is the string hanging lightly in space, or is it laid out across a surface? The textures of the string and the wall help ground the image in reality yet also add to the mystery.
